Because of this request a core group of department heads (or their appointees) and other stakeholders have been meeting periodically to lay the framework for such a program. The main working group has been Jim Thoreson, Kathy Ziegelman, Brad Cogdill and me. Deb Bond and Patty Flaagan, Sheriffs and Extension Services Departments respectively, have also been involved in support staff roles for the project. Commissioner Robyn Sorum has been meeting with the group when available. We're pleased to report the results of our work and are providing with this correspondence a copy of program materials outlining its proposed structure and guidelines for implementation. Once operational, youth who participate in the program will have the opportunity to refine the program to meet their needs. The program is ready to recruit students to apply who will become involved in the program beginning August 2005. By way of this correspondence we're requesting Cass County Commission's official endorsement of the program. If you have any questions not addressed in the materials feel free to contact any of the members of the working group. In then Commission Chair Sorum's original correspondence to department heads she stated that "the project would be a great opportunity to get youth involved in county government." We're pleased to be able to report to you what's been accomplished in making this possible. Suggested motion: Move that the Cass County Commission endorse the Cass County Youth Commission program as outlined and the program begin to accept applications at Cass County schools who desire to be involved.
