One of the department's salt sand spreaders recently broke down. 'l'he spreader was near the end of its expected 1i Ie with replacement anticipated in 2006 or 2007. 111c repairs would cost several tllOusalld dollars if parts could be located. The spreader is in such poor condition overall that it would not be prudent to invest that much in it. I would like approval to purchase a new one. This is 110t an item that was budgeted in 2005. I would cover the expense with project funds. The implication ornot replacing it now would be that we would reduce form 8 to 7 spreaders so roads would 110t get sanded as quickly, We solicited proposals on January 14 I()T the purchase of a new one. Three proposals were received. I recommend the following award based on the lowest proposed price meeting the specification.
