The fund was established to make
grants available to counties for court facilities improvement and
maintenance projects.

As a result of our discussion, it is the recommendation of our group to
request $50,000 for the first of a multi-year carpet and paint upgrade for the
seven courtrooms, clerk of court space, judicial chambers, and associated
work space. This is approximately 25% of the funds needed to complete
this work. Cass County Courthouse operations would fund the required
25% match associated with this request. While the group understands that
nearly one-fifth of the State judiciary is housed in Cass County, it was the
feeling that our request would be reasonable for the first round of grant
applications.

At the county commission meeting on November 15th, I would ask that you
vote to approve these recommendations. Following the meeting, I will
complete the grant paperwork accordingly and will attach the November
15th commission minutes as an addendum to the application.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to request $50,000 in funding from the Court Facilities Improvement
Grant Fund established by State law in the initial round of applications due
by December 31,2004.

K:\BJ\COURT IMPROVEMENT 11-10-04.doG
