Commission Minutes—August 11, 2014 4346
Sheriff Laney said Attendant Care services, which are also part of the Juvenile Detention
budget, are mandated. The service could stay in place at the county for another year, or
services could be negotiated through Clay County. The current line item for Attendant Care
is $33,250, and it would be $40,000 in Clay County.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Peterson moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to add $45,000 in the
Sheriffs budget to negotiate with Clay County for Attendant Care.
On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
The board further discussed the request to open up the current juvenile pod to the adult jail
population. Captain Frobig said the current adult population is often overcrowded, which
has resulted in the jail being marked down on annual inspections.
Mr. Pawluk requested that the Sheriffs Department return tomorrow at 2:45 PM and bring
back additional cost information about converting the jail pod to house adults.
Additional items within the budget were discussed with Sheriff Laney recommending the
removal and reduction of several items, including reducing the request for holsters from 26
to 16 for $3,250; removing the request for a boat for $6,000; and removing the airboat
lighting requests for $3,200.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Peterson seconded to reduce the 2015
Sheriffs Department budget as follows: reduce the request for Black
Hawk Holsters by $3,250; remove the request for the Ray Marine boat
for $6,000; and remove the request for bow mount lighting for $3,200.
The total reduction to the budget is $12,450. On roll call vote, the
motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Vanyo said a discussion still needs to take place on the request for four new deputy
positions. He would like to discuss the request when the group reconvenes tomorrow;
however, Mr. Vanyo would like to reduce the request to two deputy positions.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Peterson seconded to reduce the number
of deputy position requests from four positions to two positions. On
roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
24.
