LAW ENFORCEMENT MUSEUM
BONANZAVII I E, USA
•■• PO BOX 719 - WEST FAR90, NORTH DAKOTA 58078 0719
March 27, 2014
Sheriff Paul D. Laney
Cass County Sheriff
PO Box 488
Fargo,ND 58107-0488
Honorable Paul D. Laney:
Our Law Enforcement Museum is dedicated to the preservation of historical artifacts representative
of Law Enforcement, especially those that are from North Dakota. Our Museum is constantly
looking for items that might be included in our permanent display at Bonanzaville, USA
One item that we do not currently have and which we have been attempting to acquire for several
years is a Sheriff's Patrol Car. We currently own two Police Cruisers: a 1962 and a 1967
Chevrolet Biscayne and we have the opportunity to have on loan a 1935 North Dakota Highway
Patrol Buick, but no vehicle to represent the Sheriffs of the State.
In visiting with your Chief Deputy, Rick Majerus, he stated that you were in the process of retiring
some older Chevrolet impalas for newer SUVs. I realize the expense that this process requires
when stripping out the old for the new, especially if you are replacing many of the items as is the
case this year. Your office is on a scheduled replacement of the mobile radios so that could be left
in the vehicle, the center console and cage cannot be used and most likely do not meet current
airbag standards so those could be left as well. We certainly would like to maintain he decals so
those would not need to be removed and so if you were also replacing the light bar and controller;
our museum would have a fully outfitted sheriff's patrol vehicle to display.
It often can run $1,500.00 or more to demark and remove all the equipment and wiring prior to
selling it for far less than it was purchased for.
I would like your support in requesting that the Cass County Board of Commissioners authorize the
transfer of title and equipment that can be left in the vehicle to the Law Enforcement Museum so
we may maintain it for future generations to enjoy. Our museum is incorporated within the State of
North Dakota so we are able to have the vehicle transferred into our name as well as we maintain
our own vehicle insurance. I have attached a copy of the incorporation certificate.
I hope that you will agree that this is an opportunity that does not occur often and will agree to visit
with the Commissioners about this proposal.
Respectfull , 11
Al%
Glenn D. Ellingsberg, President
Law Enforcement Museum
