Commission Minutes—February 18, 2014 4264 <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Peterson moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to apply for Hazard <br /> Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds to the Federal Emergency <br /> Management Agency through the North Dakota Division of Emergency <br /> Services for the acquisition of homes identified by the County Engineer <br /> and County Administrator using funds from the Flood <br /> Mitigation/Emergency Fund for the local cost share. Motion carried. <br /> 9. HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT PROGRAM (HMGP), Acquisition of home in Lake Shure <br /> Subdivision <br /> Mr. Benson said earlier this month he met with FEMA officials to discuss the Lake Shure <br /> bridge project in Reed Township. He said a resident has called about concerns with the <br /> bridge and has asked the county to purchase the property. FEMA officials were concerned <br /> with a possible delay in the project if this issue is not resolved, and determined the best <br /> option may be to acquire the home. He discussed the financial impacts and said there will <br /> be some cost savings due to less materials needed for the bridge. He estimates the <br /> additional cost to the county will be approximately $37,500. <br /> John Swartz, resident of Lake Shure Subdivision, was present. He confirmed that he has <br /> agreed to move forward with the acquisition of his property. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Bennett moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to acquire property located <br /> at 4802 57th Street North using Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) <br /> funds as part of the Lake Shure bridge project. On roll call vote, the <br /> motion carried unanimously. <br /> 10. VOUCHERS, Approved <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mrs. Scherling moved and Mr. Peterson seconded to approve Voucher <br /> No. 276,272 through Voucher No. 276,585. On roll call vote, the motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br /> 11. FLOOD DIVERSION UPDATE; COMMISSIONERS' DAY; COMMISSION VACANCIES; <br /> AUDITOR/TREASURER/RECORDER OFFICES, Committee reports <br /> Mr. Berndt said a kick off meeting will be held by the Minnesota Department of Natural <br /> Resources (DNR) regarding the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the FM diversion <br /> project on Thursday, February 20th in St. Paul, Minnesota. <br /> Mr. Berndt and Mr. Vanyo will be in Washington, D.C. next week to meet with congressional <br /> leaders and officials from the Office of Management and Budget regarding the diversion <br /> project. <br /> Mr. Peterson plans to attend the 2014 Annual Barnes County Commissioner Day in Valley <br /> City on March 6th <br /> Mr. Pawluk said county commission terms for Mr. Vanyo and Mr. Bennett end this year, so <br /> there will be two open seats on the board. Mr. Montplaisir said all elected county offices are <br /> up for election in 2014. The filing deadline is April 7tn in order for a candidate to place his or <br /> her name on the primary election ballot. <br />
