JAN :t Fly
January 13, 2014
CASS COUNTY COMMISSION
TO: Cass County Commission
FROM: Chip Ammerman
RE: Fundraiser Event
The Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) has a fundraising event on February 14th called "Giving Hearts
Day". On February 14th, DMF has a website that people can pledge contributions to non-profit
organizations and DMF will match the contributions up to a certain amount for the organizations. The
Red River Children's Advocacy Center uses this event as one of the primary fundraisers for the
Center. The Red River Children's Advocacy Center provides a supportive environment for children that
are suspected of being abused during the interview and medical examination process and provides
advocacy services to the child(ren) and the non-offending caregiver. A "challenge" contest is being
organized between County Social Services in the Southeast region and Northeast region of North Dakota
as a way of fundraising for the February 14th event and on behalf of the Red River Children's Advocacy
Center as these counties use the Advocacy Center in working Child Protection Cases.
The fundraising will be from January 7th to February 14th with all proceeds being donated to the Red
River Children's Advocacy Center on Giving Hearts Day.
The proposed activities will include and will be only open to Cass County employees and Local Law
Enforcement Agencies.
1. On January 22, February 5, and February 12, lunches will be served. The employees of Cass
County Social Services will provide the lunches for $5.00 per meal to be served in the Annex
Basement. There will be three different team of 4-5 staff as to not burden a single group on all
three dates.
2. A group will organize the recognition candy ribbons to be purchased by Social Services staff for
$1.00 to be given to other staff as a form of recognition.
3. Have a group organize a drawing for 3 parking spots outside the back door of the annex. Each
of the three floors of Social Services will have a drawing for a designated spot for their floor
each week starting January 20th-February 14th. For the chance to be in the drawing, you would
throw your name for$5.00 for each chance you want into a bowl and on the previous Friday we
would have a drawing from each floor for the use of the spot during the next week.
SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to approve Cass County Social Service staff involvement in fundraising events during the time of
January 21 through February 14, 2014 to raise funds for the Giving Hearts day contribution to the Red
River Children's Advocacy Center.
