We've also included a list with all
deficient bridges in the county and a map showing all bridges in the county
with ratings below 80/100. The bridge map further distinguishes the
bridges below 5011 00 and the code three bridges. A second map included
illustrates all proposed 2005 highway overlay projects and the 2006 federal
aid highway projects.

The proposed highway projects are all asphalt overlays of existing
pavements. Highway projects were prioritized based on pavement
condition index, traffic volumes, pavement age and other factors.

Generally bridges must have a suffìciency rating below 5011 00 to be
eligible for federal aid. There are about 35 bridges in Cass County with
suffìciency ratings below 50.

County Bridf!es: Three of these deficient bridges are on county highways.
There are two other county highway bridges that we expect may be eligible
for federal aid even though they are currently rated over 50. The county
bridges have been give priority for future replacement.

Township Bridf!es: The deficient township bridges included in the
recommendations to be replaced were based on road type, availability of
alternate routes, traffìc volume, and other factors.

Code 3 Bridf!es: In addition to the sufficiency rating, bridges with critical
problems are given a Code 3 rating by the North Dakota Department of
Transportation. We have 2 county bridges with code 3 designations and 4
township bridges with code 3 designations. We recommend requesting
federal funds to replace 3 of the code 3 structures. Two are recommended
for replacement with local funds and one is recommended for future
elimination.
